2018

Dates: June 2019

Location: The Black Hills, South Dakota

Hosted By: South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and The Sanford Underground Research Facility

Who Can Participate: Undergraduate college students
We may expand it to include others: hobbyists, graduate students, high school students, etc. if space allows and we know others are interested.

The Challenge: Mine rescue
Someone is lost in the mine and your drone is needed to find them.
Fly into an old mine shaft, avoid obstacles, map the area, discover the missing "person" and deliver a flashlight, then return to base camp to deliver your map of the mine shaft.

The Sanford Underground Research Facility is located in the former Homestake gold mine in Lead, SD. Base camp will be located outdoors near the entrance to the mine. The drones will be able to fly inside a small part of the mine.

If you are interested in participating we encourage you to contact us for more information.
