2005

2005 Team

This was the second year of competition for the team. They created a system that used five vehicles to complete every aspect of the IARC Competition. The system uses a Rotomotion SR-1B helicopter to carry two SERV (Structure Entry Reconnaissance Vehicle) sub vehicles on booms to the designated city 3 km away. A scout plane that could quickly get to the town from 3 km away was used as a scout and to carry a larger sub vehicle called the SSV (Scout Sub Vehicle). After being deployed the SSV would start searching the town for the symbol. The plane would circle overhead and relay back to the helicopter and SSV possible locations for the symbol. The helicopter would arrive after the plane and start searching for the symbol in a coordinated effort with the SSV and plane. When the Symbol was located the SSV would find an opening and then land to get its exact coordinates. The helicopter would deploy the two SERVs that would enter the building through different openings found by the SSV and helicopter. The helicopter and SSV would keep searching for openings on the building until they found them all. If a SERV reached a dead end it could fly back out the opening it first entered and move to the next opening to continue its search. The team used five vehicles to make sure that they would be under the 15 minute limit established by the competition.
